Trump Says He’ll ‘Always Be Friends’ With Modi; India-U.S. Relations Remain Special
Amid tensions over tariffs and Russian oil purchases, President Donald Trump reassured that the U.S.-India relationship remains strong and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to be a valued ally.
U.S. President Donald Trump addressed concerns over strained relations with India, emphasizing the longstanding special ties between the two nations. Speaking in the Oval Office on September 5, 2025, Trump said, “I’ll always be friends with Narendra Modi… He’s a great Prime Minister. He’s great. But I just don’t like what he’s doing at this particular moment. But India and the United States have a special relationship. There’s nothing to worry about. We just have moments on occasion.”
Trump’s remarks come amid tensions between Washington and Delhi regarding trade tariffs and India’s purchase of Russian oil. Despite these disagreements, the U.S. President reiterated the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two countries, signaling no major threat to the bilateral partnership.
The statement underscores the commitment to maintaining dialogue and collaboration even during challenging moments in India-U.S. relations.
