State Department reportedly finalizing limited-run commemorative passports featuring Donald Trump as part of America’s 250th anniversary plans
The U.S. State Department is reportedly close to finalizing a controversial redesign of American passports that may include an image of President Donald Trump, according to sources familiar with the proposal. The move is said to be part of broader federal commemorations marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.
According to reports, the proposed design features Trump’s portrait placed over historical imagery linked to the Declaration of Independence, along with a gold-colored signature. A limited batch of around 25,000 passports is being considered for release, pending final approval.
The redesign has already sparked debate, as no modern U.S. passport has ever included the image of a sitting president. Experts cited in the report described the idea as highly unusual, noting that American passports traditionally feature national symbols rather than political figures.
The proposal comes amid a wider initiative in which Trump’s image and branding have reportedly appeared on various federal projects, including commemorative currency, government programs, and public infrastructure initiatives tied to the anniversary celebrations.
The State Department has stated that the special passports are intended to mark the historic milestone with “customized artwork and enhanced imagery” while maintaining standard security features. However, officials did not directly confirm the inclusion of the president’s image.
The plan remains under review and has not yet been officially approved.
