1,842 Candidates valid, 723 Rejected Nationwide

The Election Commission said candidates dissatisfied with the decisions of the returning officers may file appeals with the commission beginning today.

Following the scrutiny of nomination papers by returning officers and assistant returning officers across all 300 constituencies, a total of 1,842 candidates have been cleared to contest the 13th parliamentary election.

Election Commission (EC) officials said nomination papers submitted by 723 aspirants were rejected for various reasons.

According to an EC notification issued today, a total of 3,406 nomination forms were collected nationwide for the 300 parliamentary seats. Of these, 2,568 were formally submitted to the returning officers for review.

After the verification process, the EC approved 1,842 nomination papers and disqualified 723.

The scrutiny of three nomination papers filed on behalf of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was not completed, as the process was halted following her death.


The EC also released constituency-wise figures by region:

Dhaka region: Of the 442 nomination papers submitted in 20 constituencies, 309 were accepted while 133 were rejected.

Rangpur region: Out of 279 submissions, 219 were approved and 59 were disqualified.

Rajshahi region: Among 260 nomination papers, 185 passed scrutiny and 74 were rejected.

Khulna region: Of 275 submissions, 196 were found valid and 79 were invalidated.

Barishal region: From 162 nomination papers, 131 were accepted and 31 were rejected.

Mymensingh region: Of the 311 submissions, 199 were approved while 112 were rejected.\

Faridpur region: Out of 142 papers, 96 were validated and 46 were rejected.

Sylhet region: Among 146 submissions, 110 were accepted and 36 were rejected.

Cumilla region: Of 357 nomination papers, 259 were approved and 97 were rejected.

Chattogram region: From 194 submissions, 138 passed scrutiny while 56 were rejected.
