A powerful earthquake rattles Myanmar, with tremors felt in neighboring Bangladesh and Kolkata.
A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, with its tremors felt across several regions of Bangladesh and Kolkata, India. According to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), the earthquake's epicenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles). The quake caused significant shaking across the region, with reports indicating that it also impacted the city of Kolkata and various locations in Bangladesh.
The tremors were particularly intense in Bangladesh, where people in several districts reported feeling strong vibrations. This comes just after another earthquake, measured at 4.1 on the Richter scale, which was classified as a mild tremor. Despite the strong tremors, there have been no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties. Experts are continuing to monitor the situation as aftershocks remain a possibility.
