9 More Arrested Over Attacks on Prothom Alo, Daily Star

DB Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the arrests, raising the total number of detainees to 26 of the 31 suspects initially identified.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch has detained nine additional individuals over the vandalism, arson and looting of the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star.

Earlier, The Daily Star lodged a case accusing 350–400 attackers of storming its office on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue early Friday. The attackers allegedly assaulted employees, looted cash and equipment, set multiple floors on fire and damaged safety systems.
The newspaper estimated losses at Tk 40 crore, forcing it to suspend its print edition on December 19 and disrupting its online operations for 17 hours.
Prothom Alo also filed a case against 400–500 unidentified individuals following a similar attack on its Karwan Bazar office, citing vandalism, arson, looting and attempts to obstruct publication.
The case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, the Special Powers Act and the Cyber Security Ordinance. Prothom Alo estimated total damages at Tk 32 crore, with looted assets worth about Tk 2.5 crore.
