Dhaka and Beijing reaffirm commitment to expanding economic cooperation, educational exchanges and long-term bilateral engagement during high-level talks in the capital.

Bangladesh and China have reiterated their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across a range of strategic sectors, including trade, investment, technical education and people-to-people exchanges, as both countries seek to strengthen their long-standing partnership.

The discussions took place during a meeting between Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister’s office in Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday. Senior government officials from Bangladesh, including Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir, were also present during the talks.

At the outset of the meeting, Ambassador Yao congratulated Bangladesh on the election of Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman as president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, describing it as a significant achievement that reflects Bangladesh’s growing role in global diplomacy.

The meeting focused on exploring new opportunities for collaboration and reviewing the progress of existing initiatives between the two countries. Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum in economic cooperation, particularly at a time when regional and global economies are undergoing rapid transformation.

Trade and investment emerged as key priorities during the discussions. Bangladesh and China expressed interest in expanding commercial ties and encouraging greater investment flows into sectors that can support economic growth, industrial development and job creation. Chinese investment has played a notable role in Bangladesh’s infrastructure and manufacturing sectors in recent years, and both countries signaled their willingness to explore additional opportunities for cooperation.

Technical education and skills development were also highlighted as important areas for future collaboration. Officials discussed the potential for increased educational partnerships, vocational training programmes and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at preparing Bangladesh’s workforce for emerging industries and technological advancements.

The two sides further stressed the value of strengthening people-to-people exchanges as a means of enhancing mutual understanding and fostering closer cultural and social ties. Such exchanges are increasingly viewed as an essential component of broader diplomatic and economic relations.

During the meeting, both Bangladesh and China reaffirmed their shared interest in maintaining a stable and constructive partnership based on mutual respect, cooperation and common development goals. Officials noted that bilateral relations have continued to evolve positively over the years, supported by collaboration in trade, infrastructure, education and regional development initiatives.

The discussions also reflected a broader commitment to expanding engagement across multiple sectors and identifying new avenues for cooperation that can benefit both nations in the years ahead.

As Bangladesh continues its efforts to accelerate economic growth and strengthen international partnerships, China remains one of its most significant development and trade partners. The latest high-level meeting underscored the determination of both governments to further deepen ties and pursue practical cooperation in areas that contribute to sustainable development and shared prosperity.

Officials from both sides expressed optimism that continued dialogue and collaboration would help unlock new opportunities and further strengthen the comprehensive relationship between Bangladesh and China in the future.
