Faisal Karim Masud remains on the run 13 days after the deadly shooting of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson

Bangladesh police have yet to apprehend Faisal Karim Masud, the prime suspect in the assassination of Sharif Osman Hadi, a prominent spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha. Thirteen days after the shooting on December 12, 2025, in Dhaka's Paltan area, Masud remains at large despite nationwide efforts to locate him.

Hadi, who was shot in the head, succumbed to his injuries on December 18 in Singapore despite being airlifted for treatment. His death has led to widespread protests and calls for swift justice. Authorities have identified Masud, a former leader of the student wing Chhatra League, as the gunman and issued a nationwide lookout notice along with a travel ban. However, there is still no confirmed information on his whereabouts, with speculations suggesting he may have fled to India.

Over ten of Masud's associates, including his parents, wife, and brother-in-law, have been arrested and remanded, and weapons have been recovered. Despite these arrests, the main suspect remains elusive.

Inqilab Mancha has given a 24-hour ultimatum for progress, demanding a 30-day speedy tribunal trial separate from the upcoming elections. This has escalated tensions, leading to anti-India sentiment and attacks on media offices. Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has ordered immediate arrests, and Law Adviser Asif Nazrul confirmed that a tribunal will be set up to conclude the trial within 90 days. Protests continue to intensify as pressure mounts on law enforcement.
