Remittance Inflow Continues to Rise, With a 21% Yearly Increase

In the first 11 days of January 2026, Bangladesh has received a total of $133.6 million in remittances, marking a significant increase compared to the same period last year. This means, on average, the country is receiving $12.15 million daily from its overseas workers.

According to the spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank, Arif Hossain Khan, the total remittance inflow during this period shows a noticeable increase compared to the $73.7 million sent during the same period in the previous year. This indicates a healthy rise in remittance flow year-on-year.

On January 11 alone, expatriates sent $20.9 million back to Bangladesh. From July 2025 to January 11, 2026, the country has received a total of $1.76 billion in remittances, reflecting a 21.3% increase compared to the previous year.

In December 2025, Bangladesh saw an all-time high in monthly remittances, with $322.66 million, which is the second-highest remittance inflow in a single month in the country’s history. November saw $288.95 million in remittances, while October and September recorded $256.34 million and $268.59 million, respectively.

For the entire fiscal year 2024-2025, Bangladesh received a total of $30.32 billion in remittances, the highest-ever amount recorded in a single fiscal year in the country’s history.

This steady rise in remittances continues to be crucial for the country's economy, especially in strengthening its foreign exchange reserves.
