Bangladesh set to export ships to Turkey
Anand Shipyard, a private shipbuilding company in Bangladesh, is set to export a modern multipurpose vessel named 'Wes Ware' with a deadweight of 5,500 DWT to Turkey. The ship will be handed over to Nopak Shipping and Trading Limited in Turkey from Sonargaon Meghna Ghat in Narayanganj.
This 341-foot-long, 55-foot-wide, and 25-foot-deep vessel is powered by a 2,735-horsepower engine and can carry 5,500 tons of cargo at a speed of 12 knots per hour. It is designed to transport coal, steel, fertilizers, grains, and chemicals.
In 2022, Anand Shipyard exported a 6,100 DWT vessel to the UK, one of its largest exports at that time. The company began its journey of building seafaring ships in 2008 by exporting the container ship ‘Stella Meris’ to Denmark.
Since then, Anand Shipyard has exported over 50 ships to countries including Germany, Norway, the UK, and Mozambique. Over the past 15 years, the company has built more than 350 ships for both domestic and international clients.
With skilled manpower, modern technology, and adherence to international standards, Bangladesh has now gained recognition as an emerging shipbuilding nation in the world.
