Bangladesh is set to formally launch its first government-backed freelancer registration and ID management platform, freelancers.gov.bd, marking a major step toward institutionalising the freelancing sector and boosting youth-led digital employment.
Bangladesh is poised to reach a major milestone in formalising its rapidly growing freelancing ecosystem with the launch of freelancers.gov.bd, the country’s first national digital platform for freelancer registration and ID card management, scheduled to be inaugurated on Tuesday.
According to a press release issued on Monday by the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, the platform has successfully passed VAPT (Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing), confirming its technical robustness and security readiness.
The initiative has been implemented by the ICT Division in collaboration with the Department of ICT. For the first time, freelancers across the country will be able to obtain a government-recognised digital Freelancer ID Card.
Officials said the ID card will significantly ease freelancers’ access to banking services, loans and credit facilities, financial incentives, as well as government and private-sector training programmes. It is also expected to enhance the professional credibility and global recognition of Bangladeshi freelancers.
Beyond identification, the platform will function as a national freelancer database, maintaining updated data on the number of freelancers, their skills, types of work and market trends. Authorities said this data will be crucial for policy formulation, workforce planning and evidence-based decision-making.
The government believes the platform will strengthen linkages between freelancers, banks, government institutions and the private sector, thereby accelerating the growth of Bangladesh’s digital economy.
Described as a strategic national initiative, the launch is expected to promote youth self-employment, increase foreign currency earnings, and expand technology-driven job opportunities. With this move, Bangladesh takes a significant step toward bringing the freelancing sector under a secure, transparent and institutional framework, aligning it more closely with national economic development goals.
