Nine-year-old Bangladeshi girl Huzaifa Afnan is fighting for her life after being struck by a stray bullet fired from across the Myanmar border amid intense clashes. She is currently in critical condition at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

A Bangladeshi child has been critically injured after being hit by a stray bullet from Myanmar during heavy fighting between armed groups across the border.

Huzaifa Afnan, 9, was shot in the head early Sunday morning in the Techcha Bridge area of Whykong Union under Teknaf, while clashes were reportedly taking place between the Arakan Army and Rohingya armed factions on the Myanmar side.

She was rushed by ambulance to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) at around 4:30pm on Sunday. After examination, doctors immediately admitted her to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to the severity of her injuries.

Confirming the matter, SI Alauddin Talukdar of the CMCH police outpost said the child is undergoing treatment in the ICU and remains in a critical condition.

Huzaifa is the daughter of Jasim Uddin, a resident of Lambabil village, and a third-grade student of Lambabil Haji Mohammad Hossain Government Primary School.

Local residents said the area has been gripped by fear as gunfire from across the Myanmar border has intensified in recent days. Border communities in Whykong and surrounding areas have repeatedly reported stray bullets crossing into Bangladeshi territory during clashes among armed groups in Myanmar’s Rakhine State.

The incident has renewed concerns over the safety of civilians living along the border, particularly children, as cross-border violence continues to pose a serious threat to nearby villages.
