BGB Seizes Goods and Drugs Worth 377 Crore Taka at Jessore Border in One Year

BGB's significant success in curbing smuggling and ensuring border security, recovering large quantities of illegal goods and narcotics.

Over the past year, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has made extraordinary strides in curbing smuggling and ensuring border security across the 600-kilometer stretch from Kushtia to Satkhira’s Sundarbans. In a series of operations, BGB has seized goods and narcotics valued at approximately 377 crore 50 lakh Taka.

On January 19, 2026, Lieutenant Colonel Nafiz Imtiaz Ahsan, Commanding Officer of the 21st Battalion BGB, shared these findings during a press conference at the Daulatpur border in Benapole. Among the seized items were 58.49 kg of gold, 124.12 kg of silver, 27 firearms, 152 rounds of ammunition, 28,393 bottles of liquor, 37.54 grams of heroin, 265,373 pieces of yaba tablets, 49,088 bottles of phensidyl, 1,677.46 kg of marijuana, and 268,326 pieces of various medicines.

Additionally, the 21st BGB Battalion alone apprehended 86 suspects and seized nearly 14 crore Taka worth of smuggled goods and 77 lakh Taka worth of narcotics in the past year.

In preparation for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, Lt. Colonel Nafiz Imtiaz Ahsan discussed BGB’s extensive security measures. A total of 93 temporary base camps will be set up in 108 upazilas across 18 districts in the Jessore region. A total of 172 BGB platoons will be deployed for election duties, with 36 platoons assigned to 31 upazilas and 16 parliamentary constituencies under the 21st BGB Battalion’s jurisdiction.

BGB will also run 'Operation Devil Hunt-2' to prevent election-related violence and curb illegal border crossings and arms smuggling. Checkposts and surveillance activities have already been intensified at the border areas.

Lt. Colonel Ahsan reiterated BGB's commitment to national sovereignty and border security, requesting full cooperation from the local administration, law enforcement, and the public to ensure a peaceful and impartial election.
