Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has reported the seizure of smuggled goods worth approximately Tk177.78 crore during intensive drives conducted across border areas and other parts of the country in May 2026.

According to an official statement, the recovered items include a wide range of contraband goods such as gold, silver, garments, electronics, food products, narcotics, vehicles, and illegal weapons. Authorities said the operations were carried out as part of ongoing efforts to curb smuggling, drug trafficking, and cross-border criminal activities.

Among the seized items were 3.648kg of gold and 4.1kg of silver. Large quantities of textiles were also recovered, including over 11,000 sarees, thousands of three-piece sets, shirt pieces, shawls, blankets, and more than 9,000 pieces of readymade garments. In addition, authorities confiscated 4,514 metres of fabric and a significant amount of imitation jewellery.

BGB personnel also seized massive volumes of consumer goods, including over 1.28 lakh cosmetic items, more than 65,000 Gillette blades, over 23,000kg of sugar, nearly 96,000kg of cumin, and thousands of packets of food products. Other recovered items included tea leaves, betel nuts, coal, fertiliser, pesticides, and various imported goods.

In the narcotics category, BGB reported the seizure of more than 16.49 lakh Yaba tablets, 3.883kg of crystal meth (ice), 260g of cocaine, 337g of heroin, thousands of bottles of Phensedyl and liquor, as well as large quantities of cannabis, cigarettes, and pharmaceutical drugs. Officials also said over 188 suspected smugglers were detained in connection with drug trafficking and smuggling activities.

The border force further stated that 745 cattle and buffaloes were seized during the operations, alongside multiple vehicles used for smuggling. These included trucks, covered vans, pickups, private cars, buses, motorcycles, autorickshaws, and bicycles.

In a separate development, BGB also recovered illegal weapons and ammunition, including firearms, magazines, hundreds of rounds of bullets, and a rocket launcher, according to the report.

Additionally, during anti-smuggling and border control operations, authorities detained 92 Bangladeshi nationals, six Indian nationals, and 392 Myanmar nationals for allegedly crossing the border illegally. Legal proceedings have been initiated against those detained.

BGB officials said the large-scale seizures reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen border security and disrupt organized smuggling networks operating across Bangladesh’s border regions.
