The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has won 209 out of 297 parliamentary seats, achieving a single-party majority for the first time in nearly 20 years. The party is finalizing its cabinet, blending experienced leaders, technocrats, and new faces.

Following a decisive victory in the recent parliamentary elections, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is preparing to form its new cabinet. With 209 seats secured out of 297 and an additional three from allied parties, the coalition currently holds 212 seats, pending results from two suspended constituencies.

The proposed cabinet is expected to combine seasoned politicians from BNP’s 2001-2006 tenure with younger leaders and several technocrats. Discussions are underway regarding key positions, with Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir considered for party president and Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan potentially taking the Speaker’s role.

Likely cabinet members include Mirza Abbas for Communications, Salahuddin Ahmed for Local Government, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury for Commerce, and ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon for Education. New faces under consideration are Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Ismail Zabihullah, Humayun Kabir, and Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie.

Voter turnout reached 59.44 percent, while a simultaneous referendum recorded 60.26 percent participation. Although the Election Commission described the elections as peaceful, BNP and Jamaat-aligned groups reported alleged irregularities.

The party now moves to consolidate its leadership team, aiming to balance experience and fresh perspectives in its governance strategy.
