Child Death Toll Rises to 144 Amid Measles Symptoms Surge

Health authorities report growing hospital admissions and confirmed cases as concerns mount over a worsening measles situation across the country.
At least four more children have died with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of such deaths to 144 since March 15, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The information was released in a press briefing on Friday (April 10) afternoon.
According to DGHS data, a total of 23 deaths have been confirmed as directly caused by measles, while the remaining cases were recorded as deaths with suspected measles symptoms.
In the latest 24-hour period (from April 9 morning to April 10 morning), 1,177 children were admitted to hospitals with suspected measles infection. During the same time, 168 cases were confirmed as measles.
So far, the total number of confirmed measles cases has reached 2,409, while 8,910 children have been hospitalized with suspected symptoms.
Health officials also reported that 6,609 children have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as hospitals across the country face growing pressure due to the rising number of pediatric patients.
