After ten years of infertility struggles, a Chattogram couple welcomes five babies born through medical intervention, marking a rare and emotional milestone.

A couple from Satkania in Chattogram has returned home with five newborn children after enduring a decade-long struggle with infertility, a journey marked by repeated medical consultations, emotional hardship and unwavering hope.

The mother, 37-year-old Eni Akter, gave birth to three daughters and two sons on December 8 at a private hospital in Chattogram following treatment through the intrauterine insemination (IUI) method. The quintuplets were immediately admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) due to the high-risk nature of multiple births.

Doctors described the birth as extremely rare and medically challenging. The newborns remained under intensive care for 37 days, during which a dedicated team of physicians and nurses worked round the clock to ensure their survival and stability.

Consultant pediatrician Dr Abdurr Razzak Shikdar said that while he had previously seen quadruple births, successfully discharging five healthy newborns together was exceptional. He termed the outcome a “medical miracle.”

After weeks of treatment, all five babies were declared clinically stable and were formally handed over to their family. Overcome with emotion, Eni Akter expressed gratitude and requested prayers for her children’s well-being.

Infertility specialist Dr Farida Yasmin Sumi, who was involved in the treatment process, said the couple had persisted with medical care despite financial challenges, and the IUI procedure ultimately proved successful.

The father said the couple named their two sons Osman Hadi and Abrar Fahad, inspired by figures associated with justice and resistance. The family returned home on Wednesday, marking the end of a 37-day medical battle and the beginning of a new chapter.
