A tragic incident in Thakurgaon, where a 10th-grade student ended her life due to academic pressure, leaving behind a heartbreaking note.
A heart-wrenching incident occurred in the town of Thakurgaon on the night of 16 January 2026, where a schoolgirl, Humayra Akter Mim, committed suicide after leaving behind a distressing note. The note read, “Did I born just to give results? My life was only about producing good results, so I’m giving my last result.”
Mim, a 10th-grade student of Thakurgaon Government Girls' High School, hails from Ziyabari village in Baladangi Union. Her parents, working in Dhaka's garment sector, had entrusted her education to her uncle, Harunur Rashid, due to their financial struggles.
Mim was a bright student who had recently secured third place in her class. However, the pressures of academic excellence, enrolling in a coaching center, and attending online classes began taking a toll on her mental health. On the evening of the incident, she had a heated argument with her father over purchasing a smartphone for online classes. After the conversation, she locked herself in her room, crying.
Later, when her brother, Ferdous, failed to get a response during dinner time, he peeked through the door and found Mim hanging by the neck. Terrified, he alerted their uncle and others, and with their help, they broke the door and entered the room. There, they discovered Mim's lifeless body and a handwritten note beside it.
Ferdous revealed that Mim had expressed reluctance to attend the coaching classes and wanted a phone for online classes. After the argument, she locked herself in her room, and he had assumed she had fallen asleep.
Thakurgaon Sadar police chief Mohammad Monir Hossain confirmed the incident, stating that the police had recovered a note indicating mental pressure related to academic stress. The body has been sent for a post-mortem, and the case is under serious investigation.
