Dhaka Metropolitan Police has announced a 200-yard restriction around all Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examination centres across the capital while introducing five special directives aimed at ensuring smooth examinations and minimizing traffic congestion throughout the exam period.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has introduced a series of security and traffic management measures ahead of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations, which are scheduled to begin on 2 July. The authorities have imposed a 200-yard restriction around all examination centres in the capital and issued five key directives for students, parents, motorists, and the general public.

According to official notices issued by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday, the restrictions are intended to maintain order, strengthen security, and facilitate the smooth movement of examinees during the nationwide examination period.

A total of 309 examination centres have been designated across Dhaka for this year's HSC and equivalent examinations. During examination hours, access within a 200-yard radius of every exam centre will be limited to candidates, invigilators, and other authorised personnel. Members of the general public will not be allowed to enter the restricted zone while examinations are in progress.

The police said the measure has been introduced to create a calm and secure environment for students and to prevent unnecessary gatherings that could disrupt examination activities.

As part of its traffic management plan, the DMP has advised all candidates to leave their homes well ahead of time to avoid delays caused by congestion. Students travelling in private vehicles have also been encouraged to get off at nearby, less crowded locations instead of being dropped directly in front of examination centres, helping reduce traffic bottlenecks during peak hours.

Authorities have issued similar guidance for the end of each examination session. Candidates are requested to walk a short distance away from the centre before boarding vehicles, a step aimed at easing congestion around school gates and surrounding roads.

In another directive, the DMP has strictly prohibited vehicle parking near examination centres. Police warned that legal action would be taken against anyone violating the parking restrictions, emphasizing that illegally parked vehicles often create significant traffic obstacles and interfere with the movement of students.

Parents and guardians have also been urged to avoid gathering on roads adjacent to examination centres. The police noted that roadside crowds frequently contribute to traffic congestion and create unnecessary pressure around exam venues. Officials cautioned that individuals responsible for obstructing traffic could face penalties under the Road Transport Act.

To further ease traffic during examination days, the DMP has requested commuters who are not directly involved with the examinations to avoid roads surrounding examination centres between 7:30am and 10:00am whenever possible. The advisory is expected to help reduce vehicle density during the busiest period when candidates travel to their respective centres.

Police officials said the coordinated measures are designed to ensure that examinees can reach their venues safely and on time while maintaining public order throughout the examination period. They also appealed for cooperation from residents, motorists, educational institutions, and parents in implementing the directives.

Every year, the HSC and equivalent examinations involve thousands of students travelling across Dhaka, making traffic management and security a major operational challenge for authorities. The latest restrictions and public advisories are part of broader efforts to provide candidates with a safe, disciplined, and distraction-free examination environment.

The DMP has urged all stakeholders to follow the announced guidelines throughout the examination schedule, emphasizing that public cooperation will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful and orderly conduct of this year's HSC examinations.
