The Bangladesh Government Has Approved a Major Revision to the Telecommunication Ordinance, Ensuring Uninterrupted Internet Access

In a significant move to ensure uninterrupted internet service in Bangladesh, the government has granted final approval to the revised Telecommunication Ordinance. The amendment aims to prevent internet disruptions for even a minute in the country. This decision was announced following a meeting of the Advisory Council on December 24, 2025.

The new ordinance modernizes previous laws, making them more relevant and comprehensive. It enhances the powers, functionality, and accountability of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). The law also ensures customer data privacy, service quality, and effective measures against fraud and illegal activities.

 

In addition, the committee will investigate the potential dissolution of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC) to address privacy and data protection concerns.

 

Regarding the national budget, the government aims to achieve a revenue target of 5.88 trillion BDT, with food inflation expected to fall to 7%. The country's GDP growth rate is forecast to be 5%.

 

The government is also prioritizing the investigation into the killing of student leader Osman Hadi, with swift legal proceedings promised. The government has expressed its commitment to providing full security for BNP leader Tarique Rahman amid ongoing discussions on his protection.

 

Furthermore, the advisory council discussed the ongoing political tensions between Bangladesh and India, acknowledging the significance of the situation.
