Fire in Residential Building in Uttara Claims Six Lives
Death Toll Rises to Six, Rescue Operations Continue in Uttara
A devastating fire broke out on the second floor of a residential building in Sector 11, Uttara, resulting in six confirmed deaths. The incident occurred on Friday, January 16, 2026, and the situation remains dire with concerns that the death toll may rise further.
According to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafique Ahmed of Uttara West Police Station, six people have been confirmed dead, and ten others have been rescued, currently receiving treatment in the hospital. Among the deceased are Fazle Rabbi (38), Haris (52), Rahab (17), Afsana, Rodela Akter (14), and a two-and-a-half-year-old child, Rishan.
Fazle Rabbi and his wife Afsana were both working professionals. Their children, who were staying with their grandmother, tragically lost their parents in the fire. The incident occurred around 7:50 AM, and the fire service arrived promptly at the scene, managing to control the fire by 8:25 AM and fully extinguish it by 10 AM.
