Fuel Price Hike Not Yet Reflected in Rangamati as Stations Continue Selling at Old Rates

Due to existing stock and administrative monitoring, fuel stations in Rangamati are still supplying diesel, petrol, and octane at previous prices despite nationwide hike
Despite the nationwide announcement of increased fuel prices, the situation in Rangamati has remained different, as several filling stations are still selling diesel, petrol, and octane at earlier rates based on existing stock.
Local sources report that fuel stations in the district are continuing sales at old prices to avoid sudden pressure on consumers. The district administration has also stepped in to ensure that ordinary people do not face immediate financial strain due to the price adjustment.
On Sunday, when diesel distribution was scheduled, customers were seen gathering at various petrol pumps from early morning. Station operators were found supplying fuel at the previous rates instead of implementing the newly revised prices.
Due to ongoing fuel shortages, a special rationing system is currently in place in Rangamati, under which diesel is sold three days a week and petrol and octane are distributed on the remaining days.
While consumers have expressed temporary relief at purchasing fuel at old prices, many remain concerned about the future impact of the price hike, particularly transport operators and farmers who depend heavily on fuel for their livelihood.
Boat operators in the hill district noted that transportation in the region largely depends on waterways, and any increase in fuel prices could significantly raise travel and transport costs for the general public.
A representative from a local fuel agency stated that existing stock is being sold at previous prices in line with policy guidelines. However, he added that customers are required to use fuel cards to prevent artificial shortages and hoarding, and new prices will be implemented once current stock is exhausted.
Meanwhile, local authorities have intensified monitoring at fuel stations to prevent irregularities. Designated officials have been deployed to ensure that no station sells fuel above the regulated price or engages in illegal stockpiling.
Officials emphasized that strict supervision will continue to maintain stability in the fuel distribution system and protect consumers from exploitation during the price transition period.
