Government Announces State Mourning, DMP Issues Directives for Dhaka
State mourning will be observed from December 31 to January 2 following the death of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, with the DMP enforcing several restrictions in Dhaka.
The government has declared a period of state mourning from Wednesday, December 31, to Friday, January 2, in honor of the passing of three-time former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. In response to this, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued several directives to ensure public order during the mourning period.
As per the directives, all types of fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns, and gas balloons will be strictly prohibited throughout Dhaka. Additionally, cultural programs, DJ parties, rallies, or processions will not be allowed in public spaces. The DMP has also instructed people to avoid honking vehicle horns loudly and engaging in any activity that could cause disturbances.
These guidelines were shared on Tuesday evening by DMP's Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, referencing a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali. The DMP has urged full cooperation from the city's residents in adhering to these regulations during the state mourning period.
