Government to Launch Budget SIM Card Under BTCL's MVNO Initiative to Boost Digital Connectivity
The new budget SIM card initiative, led by BTRC, aims to make high-speed internet more accessible and affordable across Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh government is set to introduce a budget SIM card as part of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited’s (BTCL) Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) initiative. The move, led by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), is designed to make high-speed internet more affordable and accessible to both urban and rural populations across the country.
The initiative aims to significantly reduce the cost of internet services, allowing more people to benefit from reliable connectivity. Officials have emphasized that the budget SIM card will particularly benefit low-income and rural communities, promoting access to online education, freelancing, e-commerce, and a range of digital government services.
This initiative is seen as a crucial step in strengthening digital inclusion, ensuring that all citizens, regardless of location or income level, can engage with the digital world and take full advantage of the opportunities that come with it. The move is expected to enhance connectivity nationwide and support Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to expand its digital economy.
