Police in Atrai Upazila, Naogaon, recover the skeleton of Sumon Hossain, who was murdered after allegedly harassing a neighbor's wife, 19 months after his disappearance.

In a chilling turn of events, police in Atrai Upazila, Naogaon, have discovered the skeleton of 39-year-old Sumon Hossain, who had been missing for 19 months. Sumon was last seen leaving his house at approximately 11:45 pm on June 20, 2024, and never returned. His family filed a general diary (GD) with Atrai Police Station two days later, beginning an investigation into his sudden disappearance.

The investigation took a crucial turn when family members discovered blood stains on a piece of brick near their home. The police collected the evidence and sent it for DNA testing, which confirmed that the blood belonged to Sumon. This led to the filing of a murder case by Sumon’s wife on November 15, 2024, accusing unknown individuals.

Upon interrogation, the arrested suspect revealed the details of the crime. According to the confession, Sumon had harassed the suspect's wife by making an indecent proposal and forcibly pulling her by the hand. In response to this, the suspect, enraged by the incident, planned revenge. On June 22, 2024, at approximately midnight, the suspect called Sumon to his house under false pretenses. With the help of his younger brother, he struck Sumon on the head with a brick on a deserted road in the village, killing him instantly. To conceal the murder, the two brothers buried Sumon’s body in a nearby dry pond.

In a tragic twist, the younger brother who assisted in the murder reportedly committed suicide a few months later. The investigation has now uncovered the remains, and the police continue to piece together the full details of the crime.
