Income tax return filing deadline extended

The Chronify

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for individual taxpayers to file income tax returns for the 2025–26 tax year by one month, setting the new deadline for 31 December. The decision was announced in a notification issued on Sunday (23 November).

According to the NBR, a special order was issued on Sunday extending the return submission deadline for all individual taxpayers, excluding companies, until 31 December for the 2025–26 fiscal year.

Another order states that if any taxpayer faces difficulties filing returns online due to e-return system registration issues, they may apply to the concerned deputy tax commissioner by 15 December, providing valid justification.

This year, online income tax return filing has been made mandatory for all individual taxpayers except a few categories: senior taxpayers aged 65 or above, physically disabled or specially-abled taxpayers, Bangladeshi taxpayers residing abroad, legal representatives filing on behalf of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh.
