Internet Slowdown Expected for Three Nights Due to Submarine Cable Maintenance
Users across the country may experience slower internet speeds for several hours daily from April 9 to April 13 as maintenance work is carried out on a major submarine cable system.
Internet users in Bangladesh may face temporary slow speeds and partial service disruptions over the next few days due to scheduled maintenance work on a submarine cable network.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, April 8, Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) announced that maintenance activities will be conducted on the country’s second submarine cable system, SEA-ME-WE-5, located in Kuakata. The work, titled “S.1.5.1 Shunt Fault Repair,” will be carried out by the consortium responsible for the cable system.
The maintenance is scheduled to take place from 10:00 PM on April 9 until 6:00 AM on April 13. During this period, operations will continue for approximately eight hours each night.
As the work will directly affect traffic flow, circuits connected through the SEA-ME-WE-5 cable, particularly those routed towards Singapore, may be temporarily impacted. This could result in slower internet speeds or intermittent service disruptions for users.
However, BSCPLC stated that internet services will continue through alternative submarine cables to minimize inconvenience. Authorities have assured that efforts are being made to complete the maintenance work efficiently and restore normal services within the scheduled timeframe.
