On January 18, 2026, a four-member delegation from Bangladesh Jamayet-e-Islami met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the state guesthouse, Jamuna. The delegation, led by Amir Shafiqur Rahman, included Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Mia Golam Parwar, and Rafiqul Islam Khan.
During the meeting, discussions focused on various aspects of the upcoming elections. Jamayet-e-Islami leaders announced that they would start full-fledged election campaigning from January 22. They have already launched their "Yes" campaign for the referendum, which will run concurrently with another campaign starting from the same date.
The Chief Adviser emphasized the importance of ensuring a fair election, stating that any urgent information or complaints related to the election should be immediately brought to their attention, and the government would take necessary actions.
The Adviser also outlined plans for installing CCTV cameras in most polling stations by the end of January, with body cameras for officers in high-risk areas. These measures aim to ensure real-time monitoring and address any untoward incidents promptly.
In response to concerns over government campaigning in favor of a "Yes" vote, the Chief Adviser assured that legal consultations had confirmed the campaign's legitimacy. He reiterated that the election would proceed as planned on February 12, 2026, emphasizing that it would be a fair and festive event, with cooperation from all political parties.
Additionally, the Chief Adviser announced the launch of a hotline for filing complaints and pledged to resolve any local disputes with the involvement of political representatives and stakeholders.
He called for unity among all, regardless of the election outcome, urging everyone to work together for the success of the election and the betterment of the country.
