JU's Hall Student Arrested with 21 Bottles of Foreign Liquor in Dhaka
Student Activist Detained by Hall Authorities Following Secret Operation
A student of the Jahangirnagar University (JU) has been arrested with 21 bottles of foreign liquor in his possession from a room at the university's National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall. The arrest took place on the evening of January 4, after a secret tip-off led to a raid on Room No. 723 of the hall. The student, identified as Md. Fazle Azwad, is a member of the JU unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s student wing, the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
Azad, a 52nd batch student of the Department of Government and Politics, was found with 17 bottles of vodka and 3 bottles of whiskey. The university's hall administration, led by the hall's provost Professor Abdurrazzak, conducted the raid, following which the illicit alcohol was confiscated.
Azad revealed in initial questioning that he had brought the liquor from his village in Jamalpur district, and he intended to consume it during the New Year celebrations. The authorities confirmed that he had brought the bottles from the border areas of Jamalpur to celebrate the 31st night.
The university administration has announced that an investigation committee will be formed, and necessary action will be taken according to the university’s disciplinary guidelines based on the committee's findings.
