Metro Rail’s Kamalapur Route to Open in January 2027
DMCTL Expects Full Operations of Kamalapur Extension of MRT Line-6
The Kamalapur route of the Dhaka Metro Rail is set to begin operations in January 2027, according to the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMCTL), the operator of the service. The announcement comes after significant progress in construction, with 69% of the work completed to connect Motijheel to Kamalapur.
DMCTL Managing Director Faruque Ahmed confirmed that key infrastructure, including concourse roofs, platform slabs, precast parapet walls, and steel structures, has been completed. The focus now shifts to finalizing agreements for the installation of electrical and mechanical systems.
The MRT Line-6, which currently operates 21.26 kilometers from Uttara’s Diabari through prominent stations like Pallabi, Mirpur, and Shahbagh, will extend to Kamalapur. Metro Rail services began in December 2022, and the extension is expected to further ease congestion and promote eco-friendly public transport.
The metro service has seen growing demand, with an average daily ridership of 4.5 lakh, anticipated to rise to 5 lakh in the near future.
