The government has announced plans to provide free Wi-Fi access in 10,568 technical schools and madrasa institutions within the next six months, aiming to modernize education and enhance digital learning nationwide.

Prime Minister Tarek Rahman confirmed on Wednesday, April 8, that 10,568 technical and madrasa educational institutions will be equipped with free Wi-Fi facilities. The announcement was made during the question-and-answer session of the first National Parliament session, in response to a query from Sirajganj-1 MP Md. Selim Reza.

The Prime Minister outlined that 2,336 technical schools and 8,232 madrasa institutions will receive Wi-Fi connectivity within 180 days as part of a broader modernization initiative. The plan includes establishing smart classrooms, improving teacher training, and integrating technical courses into madrasa education.

Additionally, primary school students will benefit from a phased implementation of school feeding programs or mid-day meals across all upazilas. Multimedia classrooms will be installed in primary, secondary, and equivalent educational institutions to prepare students for global competition.

To reduce digital inequality, free Wi-Fi connections will also be provided in 1,500 secondary schools, colleges, and universities, along with unique digital IDs (“Edu-ID”) for every student and teacher.

Under the ICT Ministry, the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) will train students in agriculture intelligence, cybersecurity, mobile app development and design using Flutter, Python programming, and web-based digital marketing over the next six months. This initiative aligns with the electoral promise to make technical education compulsory alongside general secondary education for all students.
