RAB reveals Masud Karim's killing mission
The Chronify
After the assassination attempt on Osman Hadi, Faisal and Alamgir went back to Agargaon and tried to hide the weapons and ammunition used in the assassination attempt. Faisal gave the bag of weapons to his father and asked his brother-in-law Shipu to hand it over and left for Savar with CNG.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday revealed sensational details about the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi, stating that prime accused Faisal Karim Masud used several members of his family to plan, execute, and conceal the crime.
The information was disclosed by RAB spokesperson and Director of the Legal and Media Wing, Wing Commander MZM Intekhab Chowdhury, at an emergency press conference held this afternoon at the Home Ministry’s meeting room in the Secretariat.
Usually, such press briefings are conducted by the Home Affairs Advisor, Lieutenant General (retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. However, neither he nor Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani was present at today’s briefing.
The press conference followed an ultimatum issued on Saturday by Inqilab Mancha, which gave the Home Affairs Advisor and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor, Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, 24 hours to report progress on the arrest of the killers of Sharif Osman Hadi, threatening resignation demands otherwise.
At the briefing, representatives from the police, RAB, Detective Branch (DB), and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) updated the media on the investigation. Those present included Additional Inspector General of Police Rafiqul Islam; AIG (Media and Publications) AHM Shahadat Hossain; RAB Director Wing Commander MZM Intekhab Chowdhury; Additional Commissioner (Intelligence) of DMP Shafiqul Islam; BGB Mymensingh Sector Commander Colonel Md. Mostafizur Rahman; and Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) of DMP SN Md. Nazrul Islam.
Murder Timeline and Identification of Suspects
Wing Commander Intekhab Chowdhury said Sharif Osman Hadi was shot dead on December 12, 2025, at approximately 2:23 pm. After receiving the information, RAB members rushed to the scene, collected and analyzed CCTV footage, and used technology to identify the shooter as Faisal Karim Masud, who was riding as the second passenger on a motorcycle.
Another accomplice, Alamgir, was identified by tracking Faisal’s movements. The motorcycle used in the killing—Dhaka Metro La-546375—was traced to its owner, Abdul Hannan, who was later arrested from Mohammadpur.
Use of Family Members and Associates
According to RAB, Faisal Karim initially stayed at his wife’s house in Narsingdi until around 6 am on December 11, after which he traveled to Agargaon and reached his sister-in-law Jasmine’s residence by about 8 pm.
On December 12, Faisal and Alamgir traveled from Agargaon to Green Zone Resort in an Uber, arriving at approximately 5:30 am. Before leaving, Faisal instructed his girlfriend, Maria, to arrive at the resort at around 4 am.
Maria was identified through interrogation of the Uber driver and a resort staff member and was arrested from Badda at around 2 pm on December 13. During questioning, she stated that Faisal had taken drugs on the morning of the incident and openly discussed plans with Alamgir, mentioning Sharif Osman Hadi by name.
CCTV footage from the resort confirmed their movements. Later that morning, the suspects returned to Agargaon by Uber at around 9 am. Based on Maria’s information, RAB identified the locations of Faisal’s wife, Shaheda Parveen Samia, and his brother-in-law, Wahid Ahmed Shipu. Shipu was arrested from Narsingdi on December 13 at around noon, and Samia was arrested from the same district at 6 am on December 14.
On December 15, RAB recovered two magazines, 11 rounds of ammunition, multiple cheques, and other incriminating materials from Faisal’s sister’s house in Agargaon.
Following Samia’s interrogation, Faisal’s parents were arrested from Keraniganj, Dhaka, at around 5 am on December 16. Further questioning led to the arrest of Shipu’s friend, Mohammad Faisal.
Recovery of Weapons
RAB revealed that after the killing, Faisal and Alamgir returned to Agargaon and attempted to hide the weapons. Faisal handed a bag containing firearms and ammunition to his father and instructed Shipu to manage it before fleeing toward Savar by CNG.
The bag changed hands several times among family members before Mohammad Faisal ultimately disposed of it in Taruwar Beel out of fear after following developments on social media.
Based on his information, RAB recovered two foreign pistols, two magazines, 41 rounds of ammunition, and a toy pistol used during the crime.
RAB’s Commitment
Wing Commander Intekhab Chowdhury stated that RAB’s primary objective is to eliminate crime and ensure a safe, peaceful, and orderly society.
“Our operations against such criminals will continue, and everyone involved in this heinous murder will be brought to justice,” he said.
