Remittance inflow shows steady growth compared to last year, central bank data reveals

Bangladesh recorded a significant inflow of remittances in April, with expatriates sending a total of $2.33 billion during the first 21 days of the month, according to the central bank.

Data released by Bangladesh Bank shows that the daily average remittance stood at approximately $111 million during this period. The figure marks a notable increase compared to the same timeframe last year, when remittances totaled $1.96 billion.

Officials confirmed that remittance inflows have continued to grow steadily, reflecting stronger contributions from overseas workers. From July to April 21 of the current fiscal year, total remittances reached $28.54 billion, representing a year-on-year growth of over 20 percent.

The upward trend follows a record-breaking performance in March, when the country received $3.75 billion in remittances the highest ever recorded in a single month.

Monthly data also indicates consistent inflows throughout the fiscal year, with substantial contributions recorded in February, January, and the preceding months.

In the previous 2024–25 fiscal year, total remittance earnings stood at $30.32 billion, setting a historic high for Bangladesh.

Economists note that the steady rise in remittances continues to play a crucial role in supporting the country’s foreign exchange reserves, stabilizing the economy, and strengthening household incomes across the nation.
