Former MP and BNP International Affairs Secretary, Rumin Farhana, declares her intention to contest in Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail-Ashuganj) as an independent candidate.

Rumin Farhana, former Member of Parliament and current BNP International Affairs Secretary, has announced her decision to contest in the upcoming general elections for the Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail-Ashuganj) constituency as an independent candidate. She made the announcement during a prayer and discussion session in the Bitghar Bazar area of Sarail upazila on Friday, December 20, 2025, where she was the chief guest.

Farhana told the gathering, “I do what I say. The final decision is always made based on the people of my area. If you stand by me, I will contest the elections, regardless of the party symbol, from Sarail-Ashuganj.”

She expressed concerns over the lack of clarity regarding the MP candidate for the constituency while most other areas were already celebrating nominations. “It is unfortunate for the people of this area that they do not yet know who their candidate is,” she added.

Farhana emphasized her long-standing role in politics, stating, “I don’t need to elaborate on my 17 years of service; the people know what I have done. I entered politics to fulfill my father’s incomplete dream, and with your support, I can bring victory to Bangladesh.”

Speaking about the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections, she said, “The people of Bangladesh have not been able to vote freely for the past 15 years. Now the government claims that they will hold the best elections in 2026. We hope to see that happen.”

Farhana also urged the government to recover all illegal arms before the election, bring back the weapons looted from police stations after August 5, and ensure the safety of voters, candidates, and activists.

She further expressed her ambition for the Sarail and Ashuganj areas, saying, “I have big dreams for these two upazilas. I want to transform them into model upazilas. If I go to parliament with your vote, I will make this dream a reality.”

Despite the BNP having already announced candidates for 272 constituencies, Brahmanbaria-2 has yet to be officially named. Farhana has been actively engaging with the community and working on various social initiatives in the area for several months.
