Biman Bangladesh Airlines' Managing Director (MD) and CEO, Mohammad Safiqul Rahman, has been removed from his position after his arrest on charges of abusing a child domestic worker. The decision was confirmed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, which issued an official notice on Tuesday (3 February).
Due to his criminal detention, the ministry has canceled his contract-based appointment. In his place, Dr. Humayra Sultana, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, has been appointed to temporarily handle the responsibilities of the MD position until further arrangements are made.
The child domestic worker who was allegedly tortured by Safiqul Rahman and his family was rescued from his residence in Uttara on Sunday night. Safiqul, his wife, and two domestic workers were arrested and later sent to jail by the court. The case has caused significant outrage, with disturbing accounts of the abuse being revealed.
