A passionate Brazil supporter in Satkhira has captured public attention by demanding a government-issued “Brazil Card,” arguing that football fans contribute to the economy through their World Cup enthusiasm and spending.
As excitement surrounding the FIFA World Cup 2026 continues to build across Bangladesh, a football enthusiast from Satkhira has become an internet sensation after calling for a special government-issued “Brazil Card” for supporters of the five-time world champions.
The fan, known as Afrid Zada Mohammad Brazil Khan Afridi, has attracted widespread attention for his unwavering devotion to the Brazilian national football team. Locally, he is also known as Moon Rahman and has become a familiar sight in Satkhira town, riding a motorcycle decorated with Brazilian flags, stickers, and football-themed accessories.
A delivery rider by profession, Afridi resides in the Rajarbagan area of Satkhira and says his passion for Brazilian football runs so deep that he legally changed his name to reflect his admiration for the South American football powerhouse.
With the World Cup atmosphere intensifying, Afridi has made an unusual yet lighthearted demand. He believes Brazil supporters deserve official recognition through a special “Brazil Card” that would acknowledge their contribution to the economy during football tournaments.
According to him, football fans spend significant amounts of money on flags, jerseys, banners, face paint, and other World Cup merchandise, generating business activity and supporting local traders. He argues that this enthusiasm and spending should be appreciated through symbolic recognition.
“Supporters invest heavily in football celebrations every World Cup season. We buy flags, jerseys, and various accessories. This enthusiasm also benefits businesses and the economy,” Afridi said while explaining his proposal.
Beyond his playful demand, he also called on supporters of rival football nations, particularly Brazil and Argentina, to maintain a spirit of friendship and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
He emphasized that football rivalries should remain a source of entertainment and enjoyment rather than creating tension or conflict among fans.
“Football is a game that brings people together. Rivalries should stay within the boundaries of the sport and not affect personal relationships,” he said.
Afridi’s uniquely decorated motorcycle has become a local attraction in Satkhira, often drawing curious onlookers and fellow football fans. As he travels through the town delivering food orders, his bike effectively serves as a moving celebration of World Cup excitement.
Residents have reacted with amusement and admiration, with many stopping to take photographs and engage in conversations about football. His dedication has turned ordinary city streets into a colourful showcase of World Cup passion.
Bangladesh may not be participating in the FIFA World Cup, but the tournament continues to generate immense enthusiasm across the country. Supporters traditionally rally behind football giants such as Brazil, Argentina, Germany, and France, decorating neighbourhoods with national flags and organizing viewing events.
With the tournament set to captivate billions of viewers worldwide, stories like Afridi’s highlight the unique and vibrant football culture that thrives in Bangladesh, where devotion to the sport often transcends geography and turns ordinary fans into local celebrities.
