The former driver of Bangladesh Public Service Commission’s (PSC) Abed Ali's son arrested on charges of acquiring illegal assets.

Siam, the son of Syed Abed Ali, a former driver at the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC), was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of acquiring illegal assets worth 3.3 crore BDT.

The arrest was confirmed by the ACC's Public Relations Officer, Mohammad Akhtarul Islam, on January 20, 2026. This follows separate cases filed by the ACC last year on January 5, 2025, against Syed Abed Ali, his wife Shahreen Akhtar Shilpi, and his son Syed Sohamunur Rahman Siam, alleging the possession of illegal wealth amounting to 5.37 crore BDT and suspicious transactions amounting to nearly 45 crore BDT.

According to the case document, Abed Ali is accused of suspicious transactions worth over 41 crore BDT through 12 bank accounts, including deposits and withdrawals amounting to over 20 crore BDT. Additionally, illegal wealth of over 3.7 crore BDT was found to be accumulated through undisclosed sources of income.

Siam, Abed Ali's son, is specifically accused of acquiring assets worth 3.3 crore BDT through undisclosed means. The investigation into the PSC's involvement in the question paper leak scandal last July led to the arrest of Syed Abed Ali and 17 other individuals by the CID, and soon after, the ACC launched an inquiry into their financial activities.

The investigation continues, with further scrutiny on the family's financial dealings and potential illicit assets.
