Coast Guard Successfully Rescues Victims of Abduction in Bagerhat's Sundarbans Region
A resort owner and two tourists, who were abducted by armed robbers while visiting the Sundarbans in Bagerhat on Friday, were safely rescued by the Coast Guard later that evening. The rescue operation took place around 8:00 pm, with the victims reported to be in good health, according to Shukla Saha, Additional DIG (Supernumerary Promoted) of Tourist Police in the Khulna Region.
The abduction occurred in the Kenur Khal area, near the Sundarbans’ Dhangmari section of the Chandpai Range. Local police confirmed that the three individuals—two male tourists and the resort owner, Shripati Bachhar—were abducted while exploring a canal inside the forest. The robbers reportedly demanded a large ransom for their release.
Initially, four tourists, including both men and women, arrived from Dhaka and checked into the 'Gol Kanan' resort. After boarding a boat for a brief tour, they were intercepted by the robbers. While two female tourists were released and sent back to the resort, Bachhar and two male tourists were held hostage.
The incident led to widespread panic in the region, with other tourists refraining from visiting the resort area. Despite the alarming nature of the event, the resort authorities initially attempted to keep the incident under wraps. The Coast Guard’s timely intervention was crucial in ensuring the safety of the abducted individuals. Authorities continue to investigate the involvement of the perpetrators.
