Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer of the National Citizens Party (NCP) for the southern region, said, Those who have taken a stand against reforms, who have obstructed the country’s reform initiatives, and who have opposed the public aspirations that brought people to the streets during the 2024 mass uprising forming an alliance or electoral unity with them is not possible for the NCP.
At a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon, held during the inauguration of the district and metropolitan NCP offices on B.B. Road in Narayanganj city, Hasnat Abdullah made these remarks in response to journalists’ questions.
Hasnat Abdullah said, “Our party’s convener, Nahid Islam, has already made it clear that the NCP can form alliances with political forces that support reform, stand for Bangladesh’s sovereignty, oppose Indian hegemony, and uphold communal harmony. But forming an alliance or electoral unity with those who oppose reform is not possible.”
Regarding the party’s candidate list for the upcoming elections, he said that the preliminary list would be announced in the last week of November.
In response to a question about the Awami League’s recent programs, Hasnat Abdullah stated, “The events of the past two days have made it clear that the Awami League has never been a party of the common people. This so-called ‘arson terrorism’ who carried it out in the past is now clear from recent activities. Those now trying to restore the Awami League’s legitimacy are in fact legitimizing fascism and arson terrorism.”
He further said, “The fall of the Awami League did not occur through a routine political process it happened through a mass uprising. The mandate of a mass uprising is the mandate of the people; it is a universal mandate. When a political party falls through such an uprising, it loses its political relevance. Since the Awami League’s downfall came through a mass uprising, those trying to reinstate it are essentially legitimizing arson terrorism.”
In response to another question from journalists, Hasnat Abdullah said, “Of course, there must be an election. Through elections, we have to move toward democratic transformation.”
The inaugural event was presided over by Abdullah Al Amin, NCP’s central joint member secretary and chief coordinator for Narayanganj district.
