A Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) report highlights political violence statistics, showing BNP's involvement in the majority of incidents.
According to a study by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), a significant 91.7% of political violence incidents that took place after 5 August are linked to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). The study, released on 2 February, reveals a worrying pattern of violence, with BNP factions involved in 550 incidents.
The Awami League was found to be connected to 20.7% of the incidents, while Jamaat-e-Islami was involved in 7.7% of the cases. The National Citizen Party (NCP) accounted for a smaller portion, with 1.2% involvement.
The report, titled "One and a Half Years After the Fall of Authoritarianism: Expectations and Outcomes," was shared at TIB's conference room. It covered the period between August 2024 and December 2025, during which 600 incidents of political violence were recorded. These incidents led to 158 deaths and 7,082 injuries.
In addition to party-based clashes, the study highlights the internal conflicts within the BNP, pointing to a rise in factional violence. Many of these incidents were tied to efforts to seize control of key institutions, markets, and resources previously dominated by the ruling Awami League.
TIB noted the lack of effective internal mechanisms to control violence within political parties, leading to the failure to hold activists accountable for their involvement in illegal activities.
