We are witnessing a direct genocide in Gaza: Dr. Yunus at the UN
Bangladesh agrees with the UN Human Rights Commission’s conclusion that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has said.He made the remarks in Bengali during his speech at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday (September 26) at around 9:30 p.m.
According to Al Jazeera, Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, “Bangladesh agrees with the UN Human Rights Commission’s conclusion that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza.” Expressing concern, he added, “Unfortunately, humanity is not taking sufficient steps to stop this. If it continues, neither future generations nor history will forgive us.”
He also called for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on a two-state solution. Emphasizing support for multilateralism, Dr. Yunus said, “We must remember that no single country can face the challenges ahead alone. When a crisis emerges in one corner of the world, global security as a whole is put at risk.”
In his address, Dr. Yunus also touched on Bangladesh’s upcoming elections and other national issues. On the Rohingya crisis, he expressed deep concern and urged a political solution that includes all ethnic stakeholders in Myanmar.
