A dispute over a small debt leads to a tragic death in Tazumuddin, Bhola.

In a shocking incident in Tazumuddin, Bhola, a young man named Mohammad Shakil Mistry (30) was beaten to death with a cricket bat over a mere 600 Taka debt. The incident occurred on the evening of January 10, 2026, in the South Aralia area of Chandpur Union, and Shakil succumbed to his injuries at the National Institute of Neurosciences in Dhaka on January 12, after battling for his life.

Shakil, a carpenter by profession and the son of Mohammad Yunus from South Aralia, had intervened in a heated argument between his younger brother Rakib and Tamim Hossain over the unpaid 600 Taka. The argument escalated into a physical altercation during a cricket game at a local field. In an attempt to break up the fight, Shakil slapped Tamim, which led to Tamim plotting his revenge.

Later that evening, while Shakil was watching television in front of a local shop, Tamim ambushed him from behind and struck him violently on the head with a cricket bat. The blow left Shakil unconscious and he collapsed immediately.

Witnesses rushed Shakil to the Tazumuddin Health Complex, but his condition worsened, and he was transferred to Bhola Sadar Hospital and then to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, Shakil was eventually transferred to the Neuroscience Hospital in Dhaka, where he passed away early on Sunday, January 12.

In response to the incident, Shakil’s father, Mohammad Yunus, filed a murder case at Tazumuddin Police Station, naming Tamim Hossain as the sole accused. Police investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the accused.

Tazumuddin Police Chief, Mohammad Abdus Salam, confirmed the ongoing search for the suspect and stated that the police had already inspected the area.
