Shab-e-Barat 2026 to be Observed on the Night of February 3 in Bangladesh
The Ministry of Religious Affairs announces the date for the significant Islamic night of Lailatul Barat.
Muslims in Bangladesh will observe Shab-e-Barat, also known as Lailatul Barat, on the night of February 3, 2026, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has confirmed.
The announcement follows the sighting of the new moon for Sha'ban. As the moon marking the start of Sha'ban was not visible on January 19, the month of Rajab will conclude after 30 days, with Sha'ban starting on January 21, 2026. Therefore, Shab-e-Barat will fall on the 15th night of Sha'ban.
Shab-e-Barat is a significant event in Islam, with believers seeking Allah's forgiveness. Many Muslims observe the night with voluntary fasting, increased prayers, charity, and visits to cemeteries to pray for the souls of departed loved ones. The day following Shab-e-Barat is a public holiday in Bangladesh, allowing Muslims to dedicate their time to spiritual reflection and observance.
The night is also an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on their deeds and seek divine mercy for themselves and others.
