£60 million betting scandal in the English Premier League

The Chronify

Just as the Turkish football betting scandal is fading from the headlines, the English Premier League is now under discussion for a major betting controversy.

£60 million betting scandal involving Brighton & Hove Albion owner Tony Bloom

Tony Bloom, owner of Brighton & Hove Albion, has been accused of being involved in a £60 million (approximately 10,000 crore Taka) betting syndicate.

Court documents state that betting accounts were operated in the name of George Cottrell, former Chief of Staff of the political party Reform UK. Cottrell, a close associate of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, allegedly ran a large betting syndicate, which Bloom is accused of having links with. It is claimed that Cottrell was also used as a “front” for the syndicate.

The 19-page document has been revealed as part of a dispute between Bloom and his former associate Ryan Dudfield. Dudfield claims he is owed £19 million as profit from the betting operations, which forms the basis of the legal dispute.

According to the allegations, the organization known as Sterligard Betting Syndicate has an annual income of nearly £60 million. Bets were reportedly placed using the bank accounts of various footballers, players, and businessmen.

The documents suggest that Cottrell was not particularly skilled at betting and regularly lost large sums of money. They also claim that he left his betting accounts under Bloom and the syndicate’s control, so the betting funds did not have to be sent directly to him.

Who is Tony Bloom?

Tony Bloom, owner of Brighton, is considered one of the world’s most successful gamblers. A significant portion of his income comes from gambling-related businesses. After becoming Brighton’s chairman in 2009, Bloom quickly purchased 75 percent of the club’s shares and also invested heavily in the development of the Amex Stadium.

Neither Brighton nor Tony Bloom have commented on the allegations so far.
