All the upcoming series Bangladesh will play before the World Cup

The Chronify

Bangladesh have lost 10 of their last 11 matches. Not long ago, ODI cricket was the format where they performed best but now it’s the one where they’re struggling the most. This poor run of form has also affected their ICC ranking. For the first time in 19 years, Bangladesh have dropped to 10th place. As a result, their direct qualification for the 2027 World Cup is now in jeopardy. If Bangladesh are not among the top nine teams in the ICC ODI rankings by March 31, 2027, they will have to play the qualifying tournament. However, if South Africa one of the World Cup co-hosts fall outside the top eight, Bangladesh must finish inside the top eight to qualify directly.

It’s still too early to predict exactly how many matches Bangladesh need to win to qualify directly for the 2027 World Cup or how many losses would push them into the qualifying round. What’s certain, though, is that Bangladesh have a busy 18 months ahead in ODIs. They are set to play 24 matches across eight series.

Right after the Afghanistan series, Bangladesh will host West Indies for a three-match ODI series. Even though they were whitewashed by Afghanistan, a 3–0 series win over the Caribbean side would lift Bangladesh above West Indies into ninth place in the ICC rankings.

The West Indies tour marks their first bilateral series in Bangladesh in four years.

Following that, Bangladesh will play their next ODIs in March, after the T20 World Cup, against Pakistan. Then they will face New Zealand, Australia, Zimbabwe, Ireland, India, and South Africa each series consisting of three matches.

Among these, Bangladesh will host Pakistan and New Zealand (March–April), Australia (June), and India (September). The series against Zimbabwe, Ireland, and South Africa will be played away from home.

After the South Africa series in November 2026, Bangladesh are not scheduled to play any more ODIs until March 2027. However, according to BCB sources, a new series might be arranged during that gap.

It’s a long road ahead and only time will tell where Bangladesh will stand in the ODI rankings by March 31, 2027.
