Bangladesh's dominant performance leads them to victory in the inaugural SAFF Women's Futsal Championship, with Sabina Khatun finishing as the highest scorer of the tournament.
Bangladesh emerged as the champions of the inaugural SAFF Women's Futsal Championship, delivering a stunning 14-2 victory over the Maldives at Nonthaburi Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on January 25, 2026.
Skipper Sabina Khatun played a pivotal role, scoring four goals in the 6th, 14th, 23rd, and 26th minutes. Lipi Akter followed suit with a hat-trick, netting three goals in the 17th, 18th, and 31st minutes. Krishna Rani Sarkar added two goals in the 17th and 32nd minutes, while Noushan Jahan, Sumaya Matsushima, Nilufa Yeasmin Nila, Mehenur Akter, and Masura Parvin also contributed to the scoreline with goals in the 18th, 24th, 30th, and 32nd minutes, respectively.
Despite a tough start, where the Maldives took the lead through a suicidal own goal by Masura Parvin in the 4th minute, Bangladesh quickly regained control, dominating the match. They ended the first half with a commanding 6-1 lead and added another eight goals in the second half, setting a new record for the largest margin of victory in the tournament.
Sabina Khatun finished the tournament as the highest scorer with 14 goals, followed by Krishna Rani, who netted seven goals.
Earlier in the tournament, Bangladesh kicked off with a 3-1 win over India, followed by a 3-3 draw with Bhutan. They then secured victories against Nepal (3-0), Sri Lanka (6-3), and Pakistan (9-1). On the other hand, the Maldives struggled throughout, suffering defeats to India (11-1), Nepal (5-0), Pakistan (3-1), Bhutan (4-2), and Sri Lanka (7-6).
