BCB director Nazmul Islam has been reinstated as the head of the finance committee after a brief removal following controversial comments. The decision was made during the Board's recent meeting on January 24.

Nazmul Islam, a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has been given back the responsibility of heading the finance committee, just days after he was relieved of the position due to controversial remarks he made regarding cricketers.

The decision was confirmed on January 24, following a meeting of the BCB’s board of directors. BCB media committee chairman, Amjad Hossain, explained that the board had received an explanation from Nazmul Islam regarding his comments, and the disciplinary department found his response satisfactory.

The controversy surrounding Nazmul Islam began after he made inappropriate remarks about cricketers. In a previous Facebook post, he referred to national cricketer Tamim Iqbal as a "puppet of India," which sparked public outrage. Following these comments, the president of the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), Mohammad Mithun, demanded Nazmul's resignation. This led to a boycott of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on January 15 by cricketers, including Mithun, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, and Mehedi Hasan Miraz.

In response, the BCB issued a show-cause notice to Nazmul Islam, requesting a written explanation within 48 hours. On January 18, BCB chief executive, Foyzur Rahman Mitu, confirmed the receipt of his response. Despite the controversy, the BCB has followed its constitution, which does not allow the dismissal of a director without specific conditions like death, mental instability, disciplinary action, financial insolvency, or non-attendance at three consecutive meetings.
