BPL Resumes After Cricketers Withdraw Boycott; Matches to Restart from Today
BPL to Resume from January 16, 2026, After Cricketers End Boycott Over BCB Director’s Remarks
The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will restart on January 16, 2026, following a two-day boycott by players demanding the resignation of BCB director M. Nazmul Islam over his controversial remarks. The boycott had led to the cancellation of matches on January 15.
Iftikhar Rahman, member secretary of the BPL Governing Council, confirmed that the postponed matches will be held tomorrow, while Friday’s fixtures will now take place on Saturday. This announcement was made during a press conference at the BCB office in Gulshan's Navana Tower, where Cricketers Welfare Association president Mohammad Mithun was also present.
The decision to resume the league came after discussions with the cricketers, who have now called off their boycott, allowing the BPL to proceed smoothly.
