After Protests Over BCB Director's Comments, Cricket Resumes as Fans Flock to Stadium

January 15, 2026, saw a dramatic turn of events in Bangladesh's cricket scene when players boycotted their BPL matches in protest against the derogatory comments made by BCB Director M. Nazmul Islam. For the first time, a BPL match was not held due to player protests, even with no weather disruptions. Fans were left frustrated as the games were suspended, and their anger led to vandalism of posters and banners at the stadium.

However, the following day, January 16, saw a return to normalcy at the Mirpur Home of Cricket. The Rangsipur Riders held their scheduled practice, and the first match of the day, between Noakhali and Chittagong, began as usual at 2 PM. Fans, eager to watch the action, had lined up early at the stadium gates, undeterred by the previous day's turmoil.

Despite the previous day's drama, players and fans alike were ready to move forward, with a new understanding in place. The BCB had acted swiftly, issuing a 48-hour notice to the director, and after much negotiation, the players returned to the field under the condition that M. Nazmul Islam publicly apologize for his comments.
