Franchise Cricket History Made as Mohammad Nabi and His Son Ishakil Bat Together in BPL

The Sylhet leg of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has been ongoing for 16 days. Initially, there was some excitement among the crowd, but over time, the enthusiasm seemed to dwindle. Additionally, on January 11, Sylhet's home team was not in action, and only around 3,000-4,000 spectators were present in the entire stadium. As a result, there was not much buzz around the match. However, in this dull atmosphere, the on-field presence of Mohammad Nabi and his son Ishakil created a spark.

This historic moment marked the first time in franchise cricket history that a father and son batted together for the same team. The duo created this history against Dhaka Capitals in the BPL.

41-year-old Mohammad Nabi's son, Ishakil, had been part of the squad before the tournament began, but had not had a chance to play in most of the previous seven matches. Finally, on January 11, he was given a chance to showcase his skills against Dhaka. And Ishakil made the most of this opportunity.

Ishakil started his innings with an aggressive approach, scoring 48 runs initially, accompanied by Soumya Sarkar. After Soumya's dismissal, Shahadat Hossain Dipu and Habibur Rahman Sohag came to the crease, but neither managed to provide significant support to Ishakil, getting out before reaching double figures.

Nabi came in to bat at number five, with Ishakil at the other end. As Nabi stepped onto the field, the father and son shared a warm embrace, which immediately sparked massive applause from the crowd. It was as if the spectators suddenly came alive, and Afghanistan's Rahmanullah Gurbaz joined in, playfully shaking hands with both.

The father-son pair was superb with the bat. Together, they added 53 runs for the fourth wicket in just 30 balls. Before Nabi's dismissal, Ishakil was just 8 runs away from a century in his BPL debut match. Fans in the stadium hoped that Nabi would witness his son’s milestone from the other end. However, Nabi was dismissed at the end of the 18th over, having scored 17 runs off 13 balls.

Ishakil also couldn't reach the special milestone. He was dismissed in the next over, but his 92-run innings off 60 balls made him the center of attention.

After the departures of Nabi and Ishakil, the team was all out for 184, with only 13 runs coming from the final 14 balls.
