ICC Denies Accreditation to Bangladeshi Journalists for T20 World Cup, Sparks Controversy

Following the ICC's decision to exclude Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup, the cricket board and media personnel voice frustration over denied media accreditation.
Bangladesh's absence from the T20 World Cup, a decision that has sparked significant debate within the country's cricketing community, has now been compounded by the International Cricket Council's (ICC) refusal to grant media accreditation to Bangladeshi journalists.
Historically, even when Bangladesh was not participating in global tournaments, its media professionals were granted access to cover these events. However, this time, the ICC has not approved any Bangladeshi journalists to cover the World Cup. An official from the ICC, speaking to Indian media outlet NDTV, explained that the Bangladesh team had expressed security concerns about traveling to India for the World Cup, which led to the refusal of both player participation and media accreditation.
The issue has raised further questions, particularly regarding the World Cup's co-host, Sri Lanka. Given the fact that Sri Lanka shares hosting duties with India, there is growing concern over why Bangladeshi journalists would be denied coverage from there. Amjad Hossain, the Chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Media Committee, confirmed that an official email seeking clarification from the ICC has been sent.
Hossain emphasized, "Even though our team has never participated in the FIFA World Cup, our journalists have always had access to cover the event. We strongly believe our media professionals should have been given the same opportunity. As the third-highest viewership market for cricket, even if we are not playing, the World Cup still holds great importance for our audience. We should have been allowed to bring the event to them."
The BCB's request for an explanation regarding the matter remains unanswered, and the controversy surrounding the ICC's decision continues to stir frustration among the country's cricketing media community.
